Summary Of The Chart Year
Compared to 2004, 2005 was a slower year on my chart, with fewer
debuts. Don't let that inspire the thought that 2005 was an idle year,
though—it definitely featured its own highlights, namely, two new #1
songs that dethroned the previous two years' #1, If You're Not The
One. Bless The Broken Road was first to take #1 in February,
but then When God Made You took to the top and stayed there for
the rest of the year. Overall, this was an impressive year for Christian
music on my chart, as it replaced virtually all the mainstream songs that
reigned before. Indeed, I lost all interest in keeping up with mainstream
radio, back in mid-February, the same week I discovered local station WWEV, and the same week I discovered the
song When God Made You. Whoever knew Christian radio could feature
such awesome, beautiful love songs? I sure didn't at first. And who knew
there could be good, edgy Christian music as well? In the summer, I
discovered WAY-FM, a
nationally-syndicated CHR station. CHR stands for Christian Hit Radio,
which generally lands between adult contemporary and rock, in terms of
sound. Actually, it's equivalent to mainstream Top 40. That station has
been a blessing for me, introducing me to several songs that have become
hits on my chart. By the end of 2005, I became convinced that Christian
music all around is a worthy alternative to mainstream radio. If you've
never given it a try before, and you're open to trying it out, then please,
I suggest you give it a try—you might like it.
